Learn advanced Claude Code techniques inside of Claude Code

Coming to Claude Code. Until then the course runs on the learning platform.

Scene 1: The lesson starts with your setup
Learner types: /builders-course:next
Claude Code: Read your Claude Code settings: 3 files.
Claude: You already have a formatter hook, so skip that. The gap: nothing stops a push to main.
Claude asks: Add a hook that asks you before any push to main? The learner clicks Yes.
Claude Code: Hook added. It asks you before a push to main.
Claude Code: Tried 3 ways round the hook: 3 of 3 bypasses stopped.
Progress: Chapter 1 · Know the harness: modules 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 done, 1.3 just now.
Scene 2: Feedback on what you built
Learner types: How did I do on the chapter 1 Ship it?
Claude Code: Checked your setup against the Ship it list: 4 of 5 pass.
Claude: Good work. Four of the five checks pass. One fix:
Claude (fix): Your push hook misses supabase db push, which reaches production. Add it to the same hook.
Claude: Then submit your chapter 1 checkpoint on the course platform.

James McAulayPart 1 Your setup and your method
- Chapter 1
Know the harness
A setup you can trust unattended
See the 5 modules
You ship: A setup you can trust unattended: hooks that stop risky actions before they happen, so you stop babysitting every command.
- 1.1Terminal vs desktop, and a tour of my setup. When to use the terminal and when the desktop app, then a tour of James's own setup: output styles, settings scopes, the HUD plugin and a custom status line.
- 1.2Power commands. The commands that change how a session runs, from /context, /usage and /doctor to effort levels, /compact and /resume.
- 1.3Hooks: rules Claude can't talk its way out of. Claude Code hooks that block risky actions before they happen, what makes a good one, and how to test your hooks against bypasses.
- 1.4Permissions and auto mode. Ask and deny rules, auto mode, plan mode and sandboxing, so Claude can work unattended inside limits you set.
- 1.5Plugins and a versioned setup. Package your setup as plugins and keep ~/.claude in git, so it travels with you between machines.
- Chapter 2
How I build
Ship real features with James's exact method
See the 5 modules
You ship: A real feature shipped end to end with James's exact method, so your agents build the right thing first time.
- 2.1The loop, and research before deciding. The compound engineering loop, and researching with parallel agents, Perplexity and Firecrawl before you decide anything.
- 2.2The PRD method (with the interview inside it). Turn a rough idea into a written PRD by letting Claude interview you, with "done" defined as a test.
- 2.3Adversarial review of the plan. Have agents attack the plan before a line of code is written, while changes are still cheap.
- 2.4See it, mark it up, build it. Three wireframes side by side, a DESIGN.md file and annotated screenshots, so the agent builds what you pictured.
- 2.5Build, test, ship. The worked example built end to end, with automated tests, one PR per milestone and Claude checking its own UI in a browser before it says done.
- Chapter 3
Subagents and parallel work
Several agents building at once
See the 4 modules
You ship: Several agents building one feature at once, while you get on with something else.
- 3.1Subagent, skill or custom agent?. When each one fits, and why you mostly don't need custom agents: a skill run in a subagent covers most jobs.
- 3.2Many agents at once. Background agents, agent teams and a pinned model per subagent, so several Claude Code subagents run in parallel.
- 3.3/batch and workflows. Fan one job out across many agents with /batch and workflows.
- 3.4Research and critic loops. Parallel research subagents and critic loops that pressure-test a piece of work until it holds up.
- Chapter 4
Skills that improve themselves
Evals and hill-climbing, so your skills get better every run
See the 4 modules
You ship: Skills that measurably improve themselves, so your best workflows get better every time they run.
- 4.1Skills done properly. Skill frontmatter, /skill-doctor, and when a plugin is the better package than a skill.
- 4.2Skill evals. Evals, LLM judges and held-back tests that tell you whether a skill actually got better.
- 4.3Hill-climbing: quality, then cost. Improve a skill against its evals, then find the cheapest model that still passes them.
- 4.4Scanning skills before you trust them. Check third-party skills before you install them, and add a hook that scans every new one.
“Life-changing. With these skills, you are able to manage a team of hundreds, if not thousands, of AI agents working in parallel automatically. If you take the time to set up your workflow and wiki, then this pays off exponentially over time.”
Part 2 Agents that run without you
- Chapter 5
Context that compounds (advanced second brain)
A second brain every session starts from
See the 5 modules
You ship: A second brain every session starts from, so Claude already knows your business, your rules and your past decisions.
- 5.1Docs over memory. Why context belongs in files you own and can read, not in hidden memory.
- 5.2CLAUDE.md best practices. A lean CLAUDE.md, a context budget audit, AGENTS.md for every tool and CLAUDE.md imports.
- 5.3Sources of truth and path-scoped rules. A source-of-truth table, and rules that load only when Claude touches the files they cover.
- 5.4One context for the whole team. Share one context across a team, so everyone's agents start from the same knowledge.
- 5.5Connect everything to Claude Code. MCP, CLI or API: how to connect each of your tools, so Claude can read and act on your whole business.
- Chapter 6
Reduce headaches
Nothing reaches production without your OK
See the 5 modules
You ship: PRs, agent review and preview deploys, so nothing reaches production without your OK.
- 6.1GitHub 101. The GitHub basics agents rely on, and how Claude drives PRs, checks and merges with the gh CLI.
- 6.2Git worktrees. Git worktrees so parallel agents never collide: one task, one branch, one PR.
- 6.3Agentic code review. Adversarial and cross-model code review, plus a security pass on the code your agents write.
- 6.4Nothing ships without your OK. Push-to-main blocks, PR holds and secret guards, so production is the one place agents stop and ask.
- 6.5Preview, deploy, watch. Preview deploys, Vercel from the terminal, and error reporting so you hear about problems first.
- Chapter 7
Always-on Claude Code
Claude Code running 24/7, steered from your phone
See the 5 modules
You ship: Claude Code running 24/7 on a machine that never sleeps, steered from your phone.
- 7.1A machine that never sleeps. A Mac mini or a VPS running Claude Code around the clock, reached securely over Tailscale and tmux.
- 7.2Drive it from anywhere. Remote Control, cloud sessions and your phone, so the work carries on when you leave your desk.
- 7.3Routines. Claude Code routines on a schedule, from /loop to API and GitHub triggers, with rules that keep the cost down.
- 7.4Routines that improve themselves. Routines that read their own run logs and get better each time they run.
- 7.5A setup that audits itself. Subagents that audit your whole setup every week and tell you what to fix.
- Chapter 8
Any model in Claude Code
Cheaper models for routine work
See the 4 modules
You ship: Routine work routed to cheaper models inside Claude Code, with your subscription kept for what matters.
- 8.1OpenRouter, subscription intact. Run OpenRouter models inside Claude Code without breaking your Claude subscription. Read the free guide to OpenRouter in Claude Code.
- 8.2Kimi, GLM and other open models. Where open models such as Kimi and GLM do the job well enough, and how to switch to them.
- 8.3Ollama in the desktop app. Run local models through Ollama in the Claude Code desktop app.
- 8.4Model routing for subagents and background calls. Send subagents and background calls to cheaper models, and keep the best model for the work that needs it.
Who teaches it
“Most Claude Code courses teach you features you'll never use. I'll teach you everything I use day to day to work at a pace I couldn't have imagined 12 months ago.”
James McAulay has trained 500+ people to build AI agents. This is his everyday Claude Code setup, written down.
“James is an engaging presenter and trainer; that combined with the format of the live sessions and the supporting information on the learning platform and supplementary lunch and learns have taken me from AI novice to someone using Claude Code to build complex solutions and autonomous agents in 4 weeks (and I have no technical background).”

Claude Code course questions
Is this Claude Code course for beginners?
No. It's an advanced course for people who already use Claude Code and have skills and MCPs working for them. If you've finished the core Agent Accelerator course, you're ready. If you've never used Claude Code, start with the core Agent Accelerator course, then come back.
Do I need to be a developer?
No. The core Agent Accelerator course is built for people who don't code, and finishing it is enough to be ready for this course. What you do need is to be comfortable in Claude Code already, with a paid Claude plan and a terminal.
Are Claude Code courses worth it?
If you already use Claude Code, what holds you back is rarely a missing feature. It's the setup around the features: hooks that guard the work, context that compounds, and review before anything ships. This course is that setup, written down, with an exercise that ships something at the end of every chapter.
Is it hard to learn Claude Code?
Getting started is easy. The hard part is getting Claude Code to run long tasks you'd actually ship without babysitting it, and that's what this course teaches, one chapter at a time.
What do I get?
8 chapters and 37 modules of text, visuals and exercises on a learning platform, with James's skills and settings files to copy and a checkpoint at the end of every chapter. New lessons and videos are added chapter by chapter, free to buyers.
How much does it cost?
£349 + VAT, or £249 + VAT for Agent Accelerator alumni. Sales open on Friday 23 October 2026 at 10:00 UK time, and the waitlist hears first.
What happens when Claude Code changes?
You get free updates as Claude Code changes. It moves quickly, and the course moves with it. Course last updated .
Is there a live element?
No. It's on-demand, so you take it at your own pace.
Can I get a refund?
It's non-refundable once you've accessed it, the same as the self-paced Agent Accelerator, except where consumer law requires otherwise. Read the terms.
How do I get help?
Every course email comes from James, and a reply reaches him directly.
