Two questions tell you who needs a Premium seat
Ask both about each person. Have they hit the 5-hour usage limit? Will they run an agent that keeps working when they don’t? A yes to either means Premium. Everyone else goes on Standard, long sessions and all.
One workspace can mix both seat types, and the owner can move someone to Premium later. So start low and move people up when they hit the limit.
A 20-person team with 3 people who run agents all day pays for 17 Standard seats and 3 Premium seats: £480 a month paid yearly, before VAT, or £576 with VAT. All 20 on Premium would be £1,500.
Go is too light for work, and Plus is built for one person
OpenAI says Go may include ads. James’s course asks for a paid plan of at least £20 a month, and Go comes in under that.
Plus is a good plan for one person, and OpenAI designs it for exactly that. A team wants Business: one workspace with SAML single sign-on, central billing, and usage analytics and spend controls for whoever looks after the bill.
The calculator uses OpenAI’s own prices and adds VAT to pound Business seats
Pound and euro prices come from OpenAI’s checkout, read on 26 and 27 October 2026, and dollar prices from its price page and checkout, read between 26 and 28 October 2026. Each price keeps the tax basis OpenAI shows it with: in pounds, Business seats are before VAT and personal plans include it, so the calculator adds the UK’s 20% rate to a pound Business total. Euros include VAT and dollars are before tax.
One person gets Plus, or Pro if they hit the limit, because a Business workspace needs at least 2 seats. Over 200 people, there’s no public price to add up. A yearly price is the monthly cost when you are billed annually.
What people ask about ChatGPT pricing
What is the difference between ChatGPT paid and free?
Free caps messages, uploads and Codex access. Every paid plan raises the limits: Go gives more messages, uploads, image creation, voice chats and memory, Plus adds advanced reasoning and more Codex, and Pro gives longer Codex and ChatGPT Work sessions.
How many people do you need for ChatGPT Business?
At least 2 seats in total: two Standard, two Premium or one of each. A founder and one colleague can open a workspace and add seats as the team grows.
Is ChatGPT Business the same as ChatGPT Team?
Yes. OpenAI renamed ChatGPT Team to ChatGPT Business on 29 August 2025 and didn’t change the plan.
What happens when someone on a Standard seat hits their limit?
The workspace owner can move them to a Premium seat, or buy workspace credits for usage beyond the included limits, priced on OpenAI’s rate card. If it keeps happening to the same person, give them Premium.
Does OpenAI train on ChatGPT Business data?
No. OpenAI says it won’t train on a Business workspace’s data, and that’s the default, so nobody has to find a setting.
If your team already pays for ChatGPT, James can run the workshop in it
James McAulay runs hands-on AI workshops for teams, in person or online, and everyone leaves with at least one working agent for a real task from their week.
If your team works in ChatGPT, he builds the sessions around it, and the skills carry across to other tools. He has trained 500+ people from 200+ companies.
See team workshopsAs a founding team of a scale up, we needed a better grasp of the fast evolving world of Agentic AI. We come away upskilled, having created our own custom agents and AI apps, and with a network of other teams going through similar transitions. Watching them apply AI in different ways was as enlightening as the course content itself.
